An overview of Canned Motor Pumps

Find the right Canned Motor Pump for your application

Maximum safety for demanding conveying tasks

The Canned Motor Pump

The Canned Motor Pump is a compact, hermetically sealed and shaft-seal-free solution for the safe pumping of demanding media. The motor and pump form a single, enclosed unit, thereby reducing potential leakage points and meeting the highest standards of safety and leak-tightness.

The rotor and impeller run on a common shaft, which is supported by liquid-lubricated slide bearings. A thin-walled stator liner reliably separates the stator winding from the pumped medium. The waste heat generated in the motor is dissipated via a Partial flow of the pumped medium, which simultaneously provides lubrication for the slide bearings.

Thanks to this tried-and-tested operating principle, Canned Motor Pumps combine high levels of operational safety, low maintenance requirements and a long service life. They are particularly suitable for aggressive, toxic, explosive, valuable or environmentally hazardous media.

Advantages

Hermetically sealed

Reliable pumping of critical media without leaks and without a mechanical shaft seal.

High operational safety

A tried-and-tested operating principle ensuring reliable operation even under demanding conditions. The compact, enclosed design / construction minimises potential sources of interference.

Minimal maintenance required

Reduced maintenance requirements as there are no shaft seals that are prone to wear.

Low life-cycle costs

High availability and a long service life reduce operating costs in the long term.

What is explosion protection (Ex protection)?

Explosion protection (ex protection) is required wherever flammable gases, vapours, mists or dusts can form an explosive atmosphere. The aim is to prevent explosions or limit their effects. This involves classifying hazardous explosive areas into zones, selecting suitable types of ignition protection, and using ATEX- and IECEx-certified equipment and systems.

With hermetically sealed canned motors and magnetic coupling pumps, HERMETIC supports operators worldwide in safely pumping media in hazardous explosive areas in accordance with standards.

ZART®: The principle behind low-wear operation

With the ZART® principle (Zero Axial and Radial Thrust), HERMETIC employs a specialised design principle for Canned Motor Pumps. The aim is to minimise axial and radial forces on the rotor unit to such an extent that contact-free – and therefore low-wear – operation is facilitated.

This enhances operational safety, reduces mechanical stress and lays the foundation for a long service life.

Every Canned Motor Pump for the chemical and petrochemical industries is tested prior to delivery. During this process, the hydrodynamic restoring forces are measured and documented using a specially developed measuring system. For our customers, this means: high availability, reduced maintenance costs, minimal downtime and maximum operational safety.

Applications for Canned Motor Pumps

Canned Motor Pumps are used across a wide range of sectors. As well as in the chemical and petrochemical industries, they have also proven their worth in the energy sector, in industrial refrigeration and in many other demanding applications.

They are generally used to handle corrosive, toxic, explosive, hot, cryogenic, supercritical, valuable or carcinogenic substances – in short: fluids that pose risks to the environment and human health.
