Monitoring devices for maximum operational reliability
Advantages
EARLY DETECTION OF PROBLEMS
Anomalies are detected before any damage or failures occur.
GREATER SAFETY
Monitoring safety-related parameters minimises operational risks and enhances process safety.
FEWER DOWNTIME PERIODS
Early warnings help to prevent damage and unplanned plant downtime.
A HOLISTIC PROTECTION STRATEGY
Tailored monitoring solutions for safe and reliable pump operation.
Level monitoring to protect the pump from running dry
For safety reasons, the internal chamber or rotor chamber of a canned motor pump must be filled with the pumped liquid at all times. HERMETIC offers a suitable level monitoring system for every pump, which complies with the explosion protection requirements set out in Directive 2014/34/EU.
However, level monitoring is also recommended for applications without explosion protection requirements. It prevents the pump from running dry and protects against serious damage, for example to the plain bearings or caused by excessively high temperatures resulting from a lack of cooling and lubrication flow.
Equipment used
Temperature monitoring to prevent excessively high temperatures
Temperature monitoring ensures that the pump is switched off if temperatures rise to unacceptable levels. HERMETIC offers a suitable temperature monitoring system for every pump, which complies with the explosion protection requirements set out in Directive 2014/34/EU.
Monitoring the fluid temperature enables reliable control of the permissible operating range and the required motor cooling. For pumped media with a pour point above ambient temperature, it can also prevent the pump from being started before the permissible pumping viscosity is reached.
To protect the canned motor, either PTC thermistors or PT100 resistance thermometers are used in the motor winding.
Equipment used
Rotor position monitoring to protect against axial wear
The axial thrust of a pump is influenced by various factors, including the operating mode, the system conditions and the properties of the fluid being pumped. Rotor position monitoring enables the early detection of critical deviations and monitors the axial shaft position of the rotor during operation in a contactless and hermetic manner.
In combination with level and temperature monitoring, it supports efficient early fault detection and contributes to the operational reliability of the pump.
Equipment used
Rotation direction monitoring to prevent incorrect phase sequences
With hermetic centrifugal pumps fitted with a canned motor, it is not possible to check the direction of rotation from the outside. An incorrect phase sequence can therefore cause damage to the pump without this being noticed.
To ensure the correct direction of rotation is reliably detected, the pumps are fitted as standard with an electronic direction-of-rotation monitor.
